Frazzled. Busy. Sweat pants. So exhausted you scroll Facebook for what turns into an hour just to take your mind off your to-do list. Then, you feel guilty about scrolling Facebook for an hour.
The laundry piles up. You forgot to put the last load in the dryer and now you have to rewash it because it smells musty. You meant to put it in the dryer but got side-tracked when one of your children dumped food all over the floor.
Sound familiar?
This is the story of the modern mom.
And it’s B.S. (Sorry, B.C. for people who don’t like the S word.)
I was right there with you. I knew I would never catch up and I was certain I would live my entire life never completing my task list.
Then I realized I had fallen for it. I had fallen for the biggest lies Satan tells all modern moms. I started to peel back the layers of these lies and replace them with the Truth of God’s Word.
I hope as I share them with you it will shed some light on what needs to change in your thought life as a mom.
Today, we are going to compare Satan’s plan for moms to God’s plan for moms. Also, don't forget to check out our FREE Training for Moms.
Busy vs. Working Hard
Busy has almost become a badge of honor for modern moms. We run from here to there, pouring our lives into our kids, our marriages, and our homes. There is a certain sense of pride in the busy. We feel like if we are busy that means we are giving our best effort.
This is how Satan often works. He will take something good, like working hard and giving something your best effort, and twist it to trap us.
Satan has taken hard work and created a counterfeit called busy.
Hard work does not equal busy. Hard work equals diligence and excellence. It means giving something our best effort and completing it.
Some of us have so much on our plate, we cannot possibly do any of it with excellence. When I realized I had traded hard work for busy, I had to start saying “no” to a lot of things. I said “no” to a lot of good causes. I said “no” to a lot of opportunities.
I said “no” more than I said “yes.”
I said “no” when it was hard to say “no” and when I felt I might be judged for saying it.
If Satan can trick you into being busy, you don’t have time to spend with your Creator. You don’t have time for priorities. You don’t have time to live victoriously if you’re busy.
Lazy vs. Rest
Here is how this plays out: we are so busy constantly go go going that eventually we just crash. Our brain, spirit, and body start craving a break and we end up binge-watching something on Netflix or scrolling through Facebook while we still have dishes in the sink.
Then, we feel LAZY because we should be washing dishes instead of numbing out our brain via a screen.
Did you know God commands we rest? Go read the ten commandments (in the actual Bible) and you’ll find God is quite detailed about this specific commandment of rest. Per this commandment, we are to work for six days and rest for an ENTIRE DAY.
How are we supposed to rest for an ENTIRE DAY??
Well, that’s the way we were created. Perhaps He knew if we did not have structured rest, we would burn out and crash.
God’s plan is structured, planned out rest for refreshing your mind, body, and soul. Satan plans to get you so busy you crash and then make you feel LAZY for taking the break you so desperately crave.
Rest is a gift. Rest is wise.
Since learning this, we have started to work hard and rest hard. We rest for one FULL DAY each week, often on a Saturday. I also have structured rest during my week. I know after working hard on Monday and Tuesday, I’m going to be tired. I usually plan a low key Wednesday and allow myself to sleep in. Wednesday afternoons are usually pretty quiet around our house.
Not only do I feel refreshed but I work harder on weekdays knowing I get to completely unplug come the weekend. I get more done when I rest.
Do You Know Who You Are?
Perhaps the biggest trap we have fallen in as moms is not living the truth of who we are and owning our identity.
Did you know you are a daughter of the King? Now, I know you’ve probably heard that before, but have you ever actually taken to heart what that truly means?
Your Father is the King of EVERYTHING. If your daddy is a King what does that make you?
You see, we should stop saying “daughter of the King” and start saying PRINCESS of EVERYTHING.
You are royalty.
Think about royalty for a minute. Let’s look at the Queen of England.
The queen of England carries herself like royalty. She walks in her role and responsibility. People know you don’t mess with the queen of England.
She has a schedule. She has people around her to help her run a kingdom and I’m guessing her palace isn’t a mess. What do you think she eats? What do you think she thinks about? What burdens does she carry?
How does royalty raise their children, the future princes and princesses?
You see, YOU have more responsibility than the royal family of England. They are just royalty of a small country. YOU are royalty of EVERYTHING.
There is only one reason why we don’t accept and walk in that role.
Condemnation.
Shame and condemnation are Satan’s tools he has used to convince us we are not worth the royal title. He has convinced us we couldn’t possibly walk in that role. We aren’t worthy of the authority and honor it comes with.
And he’s right. We aren’t worthy of it on our own. However, because we have a Savior, we have been grafted into the royal bloodline of God’s kingdom.
Whether we like it or not, that makes us royal.
So while Satan tells us we can’t do it and don’t deserve the things of royalty, our God tells us to pick up our crowns and put them on our beautiful heads.
